Forestier, writer and former architect Wim Cuyvers has collaborated with the Frans Masereel Centrum within the affiliated artist program since the beginning of 2020. A first result of this collaboration, which will spread over a few years, is the collection of short stories ‘L’Autre’. Cuyvers brings together 9 previously published short stories with 3 brand new texts and a sharp-witted reading guide.
‘L’Autre’ does not present a ‘break-up’ for Wim Cuyvers with his earlier occupation: it is a different way of talking about public space as a place to meet each other. The title also refers, among other things, to another recurring theme in the stories: the topic of ‘social discomfort’.
The 12 texts that make up ‘L’Autre’ were written over a period of fifteen years and can be read as stories that span a lifetime. They were purposefully not bundled in chronological order: the short stories attract each other and meld into their final shape, as one book.
The official launch of the publication took the form of a narrated walk, on Sunday September 27, 2020. The publication is available in our bookshop.
