In the spring of 1999, the Frans Masereel Centrum organized a collography workshop, led by South African artists Bongi Mkhize and Simon Mthimkhulu. Collography is a form of intaglio printmaking that does not use acid: a relief is built up with elementary materials and gets printed like an etching plate.
Simon Mthimkhulu’s work Great Expectations is exemplary of this technique.
