The Story of M.B. as told by Jef Geys

Opening

date: 03.10.2021

Festive opening of the international group exhibition on October 3rd 2021 (11h – 15h)

Starting point of ‘The Story of M.B. as told by Jef Geys’ are two exceptional graphic works by Marcel Broodthaers and Jef Geys that were created almost fifty years ago in the workshop of the Frans Masereel Centrum and are now reunited for the first time.

The presentation contextualises and activates both the unique genesis and the artistic intentions of both works by allowing them, together with several period documents, to enter into dialogue with new and existing work by an intergenerational group of contemporary artists.

This international group exhibition not only reflects on the unstable nature of meanings or hybrid forms of authorship, but also provides a framework for understanding an increasingly important phenomenon, namely the constructedness of any narrative, and its impact on both our daily and global processes.

Artists: Marcel Broodthaers, Lili Dujourie, Harun Farocki, Jef Geys, Melissa Gordon, Sara Magenheimer, Sven ‘t Jolle, Nora Turato, Paweł Althamer & Artur Żmijewski

Curator: Stijn Maes

Welcome at the opening event on Sunday October 3rd (11h – 15h)!

We serve Brussels waffles, local drinks and there will be live music.
