Billytown – Wednesday October 4, 1pm

Billytown was founded in 2003 as an artist initiative with the goal of facilitating studios and a gallery space for a collective of professionally working artists. Mutual engagement and dialogue are central principles within the initiative. The group consists of artists whose diverse individual practices together form a broad network that provides the basic structure for the ongoing development of the initiative and the individual artists within it.
Since 2018, Billytown has been located in ‘De Helena’ in the center of The Hague as a platform for art, with 20 studios, a large exhibition space (Billytown Gallery), a library (The Archives), a bookstore/publishing house (Billytown Bookshop), an Artist-in-residence (Billytown AiR) subsidized by the Mondriaan Fund, and a range of internal facilities such as a woodworking shop and a communal kitchen.

At De Helena, Billytown has developed into an integral part of the Hague and Dutch art landscape. It provides an open and inclusive platform that welcomes different perspectives, backgrounds and studio practices, all intertwined with the presentation of art. Billytown also collaborates with and hosts local and international artists and initiatives.
