Unfolding 2024

With deep gratitude, we look back at some of the memorable moments we experienced together with you – artists, visitors, staff, volunteers – that made 2024 so special:

  • As many as 60 national and international artists participated in our residency programme, or developed a new project in our studios.
  • With over 600 visitors, the first edition of Open Masereel exceeded our wildest dreams: you clearly enjoyed the work of our alumni, the diverse side programme, the new editions and the culinary experience with Seppe Nobels and Nico Dockx.
  • We began the re-inventory of our extensive collection, consisting of more than 20,000 works of art. Meanwhile, 6,300 works from the period 1972-1987 have been catalogued. To be continued!
  • Hibernus #2, featuring work by Jacqueline Peeters, Marina Pinsky, Ken Verhoeven and Melissa Gordon, was launched to great acclaim. Discover their editions in our bookshop.
  • Our team was joined by Zofia (collection coordinator), Robin (business coordinator) and Gül (maintenance and bookshop).
  • At the same time, we bid a warm farewell to Maria, who retired as head of maintenance after years of loyal service. Fortunately, she will stay with us for a while as caretaker.
  • This year we also welcomed our last group of residents before temporarily pausing our residency work due to the construction of a new artists’ pavilion.
  • During the concluding residency project …, een dag, een nacht, een dag, …Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Hana Miletić, Natasja Mabesoone, Raimundas Malašauskas and Vaast Colson stayed one last time in our iconic A-frame houses, initiating a discursive trajectory with each of them.

To all the artists, visitors, staff and partner organisations: thank you for the many moving, surprising, inspiring, challenging moments that made 2024 an unforgettable year!

At the same time, we are eagerly looking forward to 2025—a year full of new challenges, projects and encounters.

See you then!
