…, een dag, een nacht, een dag, …

period: 01.09.2024 → 30.11.2024

The Frans Masereel Centrum is facing major renovation work. In the spring of 2025 the construction of a brand new artists’ pavilion will begin.

To bid farewell in beauty to the iconic artist houses that have been a crucial part of our residency programme since 1972, the one-time residency project “…, een dag, een nacht, een dag, …” (…, a day, a night, a day, …)* brings together a selection of former residents and recent collaborators, to stay one last time in the A-frame houses that will soon be replaced.

Rather than culminating in a physical exhibition, the residency project focuses on artistic development and creation, and coincides with a discursive component, with individual, in-depth reflections on the essence and potential of art.

Participating artists: Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Hana Miletić, Natasja Mabesoone, Raimundas Malašauskas, Vaast Colson

Please note that during the construction of the new artists’ pavilion, our residency programme will be temporarily suspended. We expect to resume it in 2026.

* The immersive experience of a residency means that the tangible alternation of day and night is often an important constant and rewarding hold. In this, it also serves as a metaphor for the transition we face as an organisation.

Moreover, with “…, een dag, een nacht, een dag, …” (…, a day, a night, a day, …) we refer to a key work by the late Jef Geys, more specifically a book – and later a video – with all his black-and-white photographs up to 1998. Jef Geys was present during the construction of the iconic artist houses in 1972, which he – as a keen observer and chronicler of (his own) history – also documented.
