In the context of the 50th anniversary of the Frans Masereel Centrum, Lisse Declercq realized an intense and colorful screen print in seven printing runs, as a gift for the 263 inhabitants of Kasterlee who also turned 50 in 2022. At the same time, the artist also produced a signed and numbered edition for all those who participated in the ambitious anniversary party; some of these signed editions are now exclusively for sale through our bookshop.
Characteristic of Lisse Declercq’s work is that she manages to depict an autobiographical theme (in this case Kasterlee as the place where she grew up and has now established her artist studio) by means of universally recognizable symbols: a tear, butterfly, caterpillar. Light and heavy emotions flow together. Coming of age and self-reflection in the era of self-promotion.
