Marianna Christofides

Marianna Christofides (born 1980 in Nicosia, lives and works in Cologne) is a visual artist and experimental film maker. She co-represented Cyprus at the 54th International Art Exhibition — la Biennale di Venezia 2011.
In her practice she is investigating ‘documented realities’ by means of metonymic processes. Images are considered as visual documents of stories and places that have the potential to be renegotiated and reconfigured. Christofides is interested in the incidental sidelines of narratives which have already been sifted out at some time but which, precisely because of the inability to pin them down with any certainty, leave space for a story to be begun — it is a journeying that laterally dissects disciplines, space and time.
