Jae Young Kim

"My work is about the traces of everyday life. I collect traces from my interaction with objects in space. I am interested in the ephemeral quality of these traces and celebrate them through my work.

In my residency, I was interested in capturing shadows from the sunlight using balls. The balls that I used are very cheap and small objects; kids can play with and throw away easily. However, it still has sphere shape. I traced shadows that sun light made which we have every day. I captured the shadows in different city (Seoul where I am from and Frans Masereel in Belgium where I worked on this project). It shows similar but different shapes of shadows, but never the same like how I feel from my daily life."
