In 2013, artists Ward Zwart (1985, B) and Ignace Cami (1986, B) decided to bring together part of their creative impulses into a collective. This took shape under the name ‘Haas & Gaai’ and builds further on a long tradition of artistic duos, such as Fischli & Weiss, Gilbert & George but also Beavis & Butthead.
In their collaboration, Zwart and Cami question the myth of the artist and the impersonality of the art world. In a metaphoric way, they conjure their lives as artists into a fable and their alter egos begin to live a life of their own. Fiction and reality are mixed together in an absurd world view. Haas & Gaai is expressed in different ways, for example as drawings, printed material, glove puppets, video or musical projects.
