Axelle Stiefel

Axelle Stiefel (b. 1988/CH) was a resident at Wiels Center for Contemporary Art, Brussels in 2013. Her work is cinematic and performative.

"For my essay residency at Frans Masereel Centrum, I have decided to focus on printed fabrics, samples of the size of a kitchen towel on which I developed a new vocabulary of forms: writing, in proper.

The textile is a projection of thinking, like a work of science fiction, a metaphor, an exercise of cartography.

By the gestures of the printer, I cover and uncover certain folds of the real, entangled in material and disclosed by touch, sliding, pressure and imprint."
