In 2008, the contemporary art space De Garage (Cultural Center Mechelen) started a project in and with the Frans Masereel Centrum. This was done at the request of Jan Verlinden, then head of the Arts and Heritage Agency. Six established artists (Ronny Delrue, Honoré d’O, Kendell Geers, Vincent Geyskens, Tina Gillen and Pieter Vermeersch) were asked two questions. “What role can printmaking play in the world of contemporary art and in the work of an artist?” and “how do you situate printmaking as a visual language within contemporary visual culture?” Each artist looked for the relevance and ‘topicality’ of the graphic medium within their own practice.

The project resulted in a limited edition folder, featuring work by each artist, and a box containing six artist books and one textbook. Together with the master printers of the Frans Masereel Centrum, they also made additional work that was presented at an exhibition in the Cultural Centre in Mechelen.
