The Frans Masereel Centrum commissioned Belgian architect and visual artist Olivier Goethals to realize a comprehensive piece of furniture, combining a library with seating and a silent work station, in one of the extensions of our new building. Goethals added more plants, an impressive light box and even a place to rest.

We will activate the installation on February 2 with the re-launch of the much-acclaimed publication 'Al de zwart-wit foto's tot 1998' (All the black-and-white photographs up to 1998). Published in 1998 by Jef Geys with a prosaic, self-explanatory title, this weighty tome of some 500 pages is filled with contact prints of all the photographs made by the artist over the first forty years of his artistic practice. As such, this important book, which was unavailable for over a decade, offers a panoramic survey of the artist as remorseless observer and chronicler of his (own) history.
