School residency

A school residency is a unique opportunity for universities and university colleges with a Master-degree program to develop a contemporary, print-related project - both individually and/or in group. In a professional printmaking workshop and within the context of an international residency and exhibition space, students are invited to experiment and realize their projects under the supervision of their tutors. We encourage participating schools to collaborate and work on a joint project (and can facilitate conversation between interested parties). During the school residencies, the Centre organizes print related Artist Talks tailored to the students' fields of study and the schools' DNA, alongside its annual Fall exhibition.

Each school residency starts on Friday (arrival between 3 and 5 pm) and lasts until Friday (11 am). On Monday evening an Artist Talk is scheduled, and Thursday afternoons are dedicated to prepare the closing presentation.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
The only way to sign up for a residency is via the online application form. Frans Masereel Centrum makes its selection of universities and university colleges based on the content and relevancy of each application within contemporary printmaking. When the selection has been made, Frans Masereel Centrum will contact and inform each applicant, by March 16, 2020 (at the latest).

If your school was selected, Frans Masereel Centrum will ask you to finalize your application with additional information:
- names of the participating students
- short intended schedule of the residency time at Frans Masereel Centrum
- proof that the students are insured during their residency at Frans Masereel Centrum

When the selection is made and the residencies are known, universities will also be informed on which other schools will be in residency. We encourage schools to exchange their information and ideas in advance. During the residency, all residents are required to follow our studio and housing guidelines. They can be found here and in the information brochure, which will be shared with the participating schools.

PRICE
Formula 1: €900 per week* (max 8 students and 2 tutors)
Formula 2: €500 per week* (max 4 students and 2 tutors)
Formula 3: €1200 per week* (max 12 students and 2 tutors)

Each formula includes accommodation, bedding and towels, the use of the workshop and basic materials. The school provides specific inks and paper. Extras such as the use of our RISO printers and lasercutters, or digital photographic prints, will be charged at production cost. All costs will be billed to the school and not to students individually.

The invoice for the residency itself has to be settled within 30 days after the billing date; otherwise the residency will be cancelled automatically. Schools that bring less students than the maximum number on the formula will be invoiced for the total amount of the formula.

Artistic out-of-the-box mentalities and multidisciplinary approaches are encouraged.

Frans Masereel Centrum is an open-minded institution that wants to reflect society as a whole and does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation or gender expression.

We hope to welcome you soon!
