Sylvie De Meerleer

'Wir sind die Bienen des Unsichtbaren. Wir tragen leidenschaftlich den Honig des Sichtbaren ein, um ihn im großen goldenen Bienenstock des Unsichtbaren anzuhäufen.' Rainer Maria Rilke, Duineser Elegien, letter to Hulewicz, November 1925.

In 'Le Miel du Visible' textures and structures of natural elements are being studied and shown. The building blocks of this project are about 70 small etching plates of 4 by 4 cm. On each I have drawn a different skin.
In total I've made 840 prints that were torn and turned into larger organic pieces in which all textures flow into each other fluidly. They melt together into tactile landscapes that challenge eyes to be hands and to glide from one tangible feeling into the other. Visual fingers find their way in the landscape, move between soft and rough.
