Juan Ortiz-apuy

Juan Ortiz-apuy was born in Costa Rica in 1980 and lives and works in Montreal since 2003. Ortiz-Apuy has a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal (2008), a Post-graduate Diploma from the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland (2009), and a MFA from NSCAD University, Halifax (2011).

During his residency, he embarked on the development of a new series of mixed media collages that use the language of advertising and product display in order to explore notions of commodity fetishism and animism. These collages were developed using the facilities and resources at the centre and involved a combination of digital and analog techniques. This new body of work along with other upcoming components will be integrated into a large-scale sculptural installation that will be exhibited in Canada in 2018.
